Emma has longed for her brother's love and his protection. And although her idea of what that looks like might be exactly what you see here, I believe Ryan has always loved and felt protective of his baby sister, but, how HE showed it may not have been what SHE was looking for.
Emma may not have always sensed the connection her brother has with her, but, maybe that's because she was basing her expectation of what that connection looked like and felt like on the one she has with her oldest brother Kyle. Their connection is very different, but, that does not make Ryan's connection with his sister any less.
As neurotypicals, we try so hard to teach individuals with autism OUR perspective, to fit into OUR world, but, if we look past what WE expect to see, if we look from THEIR perspective, our own perspective might shift and maybe we will see more than we could ever possibly capture with a camera.
There is "more than meets the eye" when it comes to understanding individuals with autism, but, in order to get that, we have to start looking beyond a camera lens, we have to change our viewpoint and we have to "see" with our hearts.
